With the new insider preview of Windows 10, which Microsoft is currently distributing, the PC operating system is closer to the world of Android smartphones. Also the iPhone is better to be intertwined with the Windows-PC, which should take however still a while.
Starting an article on the road on a smartphone and reading it at a computer at rest – this is only a first application case for how Microsoft presents the interplay between smartphone and PC. Later, apps should also be able to share content directly with the PC, and not just about a simple copy-and-paste.
The new Microsoft Apps application makes it possible to send a page to the PC in the mobile browser. Then there are two options: Either the user can open the website directly on the PC and read it further, or he selects “Continue later”, then the page is automatically loaded and brought to the forefront when logging into the Windows PC. The iPhone is also supposed to get these features, but Microsoft has not yet published a schedule. Android smartphones are currently treated preferentially in Redmond – but with the crushing market share is also no wonder.
In addition, the assistant Cortana gets new functions. Search results are now displayed directly in the window of the wizard, in many cases the user does not have to open the web browser at all. Cortana can now also use a voice command to shut down the PC, lock it, or log off the user.
