Sony unveiled today (28) during the GameStop Expo in Las Vegas that the PlayStation VR continues to be one of the company’s foci and that the accessory is seen in a very positive way for them. And what does it mean? Basically, there are plans to further explore the handset, including with launches of new AAA games for the platform.
This statement was made by Asad Qizilbash, Sony’s vice president of marketing, who also said the company is “super-focused” on the periphery and intends to double the number of units available by the end of the year (for Black Friday and Christmas).
According to Qizilbash, Sony has a “great platform” with the PlayStation VR and now is the time to arm it to the teeth. According to the vice president, the company is not forcing the bar with third-party developers to make more games for the enhancement but encouraging internal teams to sketch and take interesting ideas that serve virtual reality.
More AAA games? Yes, but there is a catch
Finally, the hottest news is that the executive confirmed with 100% certainty that there are more AAA titles, that is, games blockbuster’s by weight, coming to the PlayStation VR. According to Qizilbash, there is currently a very interesting balance between indies and AAA games on the periphery. However, there is a balcony in the executive’s speech.
For Asad Qizilbash, games like Farpoint can be considered AAA because of resource investment and production scale. However, the concept of AAA title for the general public is in titles like Uncharted, Infamous, The Last of Us and others of that level. Therefore, there may be differences between AAA game definitions.
Currently, there are plans to bring Gran Turismo Sport to PS VR, Final Fantasy XV: Monsters of the Deep (an FF XV mini-game) and support for some of the smaller virtual reality titles. The PlayStation VR recently received a cut in price, dropping $ 50 from the complete version – which comes with the PlayStation Camera and a couple of Move controls.
