The Titanfall studio is already part of EA Worldwide Studios
On November 9, Electronic Arts announced that it had reached an agreement with Respawn Entertainment to acquire it. Now, the distributor reported that they finalized this purchase process, so they already own the study of Titanfall.
Electronic Arts confirmed the above through a statement on its website: “On November 9, 2017, we announced an agreement to acquire Respawn Entertainment, LLC, a leading studio in independent development and creators of AAA games and action shooters such as Titanfall franchise. Today, December 1, 2017, we have completed the acquisition of Respawn under the terms agreed upon. ”
So, from this week Respawn Entertainment works as part of EA Worldwide Studios, a seal which also includes studies such as DICE, Ghost Games, Bioware, Criterion and Motive. This means that the following titles that it produces will be distributed by Electronic Arts.
It is important to note that Vince Zampella, co-founder and president of Respawn, explained that the main reason they accepted this deal is that EA will allow them to preserve their creative freedom. Thus, fans can expect the studio to continue producing the same type of games to which they are accustomed: “What I want to say is that we are still Respawn and we will continue to do the same games that we did before, and we hope they are better. Anyone who is a Respawn fan must trust that what we are doing is what we think is best for the future of Respawn and our games, our intention is that our fans receive everything they received in the past and more. ”
For his part, Patrick Söderlund, executive vice president of Electronic Arts, said they want their studies to feel good and without creative constraints. The above is like that and he thinks it would be unwise to make them change something in their work style. Of course, the distributor will offer the possibility to work with tools such as the Frostbite Engine.
We take advantage of the fact that we talked about Respawn to tell you that he is currently working on a Star Wars project; however, we still do not know much about him. In addition, he recently announced the development of a new virtual reality game.
